FAQs

Have a question? Email us at tarriverrunningco@gmail.com

Q: Is there a limit on the number of runners allowed?
A: Yes. 300 runners will be allowed in the 5k, and 100 runners will be allowed in the 1 Mile Fun Run.

Q: Can I walk the race?
A: Yes. If you are interested in walking you are welcome to participate in the 5k or the 1 Mile Fun Run.

Q: Where can I pick up my race packet?
A: There are two opportunities to pick up your race packet. There will be a Friday packet pickup at the Dental Care Center on Sunset Avenue (where the race starts). You can also pickup on Saturday morning before the races begin. It is strongly recommended to pick up your packet Friday if possible.

Q: Can I register the morning of the race?
A: Yes. Race day registrations will be allowed assuming the event has not sold out. If you register at the event your shirt size will not be guaranteed. We anticipate this will be a popular event, so early registration is encouraged.

Q: Will the course be clearly marked?
A: Yes. All turns and each mile will be clearly marked. Any intersection that could be impacted by vehicles will also be manned with volunteers.

Q: What is the terrain like?
A: If you are not familiar with Rocky Mount, we are a very flat town. Candlewood is on of the few neighborhoods that actually has rolling hills, but nothing that is too challenging. The entire course will be held on the shaded roads.

Q: How do I enter in the Sweetheart Division with my spouse?
A: When you register you must indicate your team name. Both runners should use the same team name so we can match you up in the results. Learn more on the Sweetheart Division page.

Q: If I enter with my spouse am I still eligible for an individual award?
A: Yes. The Sweetheart Division does not impact any other awards. Both runners will still run the complete 5k, and are allowed to run it independently

Q: Will there be food after the race?
A: Yes. Runners will have drinks and snacks after the finish.

Q: Where do I park?
A: There are three lots that will be used for parking. the church lot, Dental Care Center, and Stoney Point. We recommend parking in the church lot, so you do not have to cross Sunset Avenue. Those that park in the other lots should be VERY CAREFUL crossing Sunset. Please take the hand of children when crossing.

Q: Is this event chip timed?
A: Yes. Tar River Timing will provide chip timing for the 5k. This will help to ensure a safe start without the need to elbow your way to the front. The 1 Mile Fun run will not be timed.

Q: What happens if it rains?
A: We will still run in the rain. If there is lightning we will delay the start. If we do not foresee a large enough time window to execute the race, the race will be canceled. A rain date will be considered, but it is not guaranteed. Rescheduling is very challenging because of several fixed costs that are non refundable.

Q: What happens if it snows?
A: If any weather condition occurs that makes this event unsafe for travel and/or unsafe for running the race will be canceled.
